China destination
Beijing
Beijing is the clearest starting point for travelers who want imperial history, the Great Wall, old neighborhoods, and a first understanding of China.

Why start in Beijing
Beijing is often the easiest first China city to explain to overseas travelers: palace history, the Great Wall, traditional neighborhoods, and major transport links all sit in one route system.
Main places of interest
- Forbidden City area and Jingshan viewpoint
- Great Wall sections chosen by season, crowd level, and walking ability
- Temple of Heaven, hutongs, local markets, and old-city food stops
Planning notes
For one day, choose either a palace route or a Great Wall route. For 2-3 days, combine both and add a slower old-city walk. Ticket timing, hotel location, and traffic matter more than adding too many stops.
